The American Revolution

When one overthrows the government in favor of a new system, a revolution sets in. It doesn’t happen right away. Every small action against the status-quo adds up. What drove The American Revolution to the Peace of Paris? Read on to find out!

The American Revolution, also known as The Revolutionary War (1775-83), stemmed from the unrest between North American colonists and the British crown. The North American colonists felt abandoned by the British crown after winning the French and Indian War. This set the War for their independence into motion.

The British crown had a tremendous military force of all time, albeit uncoordinated. They won many battles in the North. But the victory of the American colonists at Saratoga, New York, in October 1777, won over the French alliance.

Between 1778 and 1781, the British military won most of the battles in the South. But when they marched into Virginia, the Americans and their French allies surrendered the British forces.

The Americans won their independence in 1781, but the fighting continued until 1783 — when the final treaty, called the Peace of Paris, was signed. After eight long years of warfare, Great Britain recognized the independence of the United States of America.
